It was a usual night driving downtown with my husband when for some reason he made a sudden detour to a place called Tokinosumika in the city of Gotemba to see their famous Illumination display. I knew the place since we have talked about it couple of times before but the whole thing turned out much better since it came as a surprised!
Anyway, the location was on a higher area so we have to park on the lower ground and walked our way to the entrance. The entrance was decorated with gleaming floral that no one would miss. As we walked inside, we were then underneath a canopy of lights as if we have just entered some place magical!
What made it more interesting were the decorated glowing car and a hanging jar with real fishes on it. I mean, that is something you don’t get to see every day, right?
Fascinatingly, it was also their annual illumination contest were schools and private businesses can show off their arty side too!
And the highlight of the evening was the fountain illumination! No more words needed; it’s like seeing a wave of a magic wand!
Something nostalgic for me was actually the Little Houses. Yes, these tiny glowing hills were actually individual guest houses where visitors can stay over night (like your own version of a Hobbit hotel, if you put it into perspective). I was lucky enough to stay there during my last night in Japan (last year) and trust me when I say, it’s something you have never seen before.
Do you think we forget about food? -Definitely not. Last stop was this eatery dome lighted with Japanese lanterns. There were tables and chairs surrounding the area and of course some Japanese local food to enjoy!
Too bad we didn’t get to stay there for long but sure enough everything was worth the stop over!
