I can still remember how anime shaped a part of my childhood– and I guess you could say the same. We all have that one anime idol that we hopelessly memories every lines, mimic every moves and even improvised as much resources we have to even create the same outfit they wear. Ah, those were the days!

Well, If you are guilty as charge to be doing those things and that you have been fond of anime like me, you should definitely include this to your travel list – Akihabara District in Tokyo. A place where all your anime fantasies come true! Since anime or manga basically rooted in Japan, it should be no surprise that they have an entire place dedicated for this.

Otaku is a Japanese word that means geek, somehow a stereotypical connotation to those who are anime enthusiast, gaming addicts, toy collectors and the list goes on. Though I don’t consider myself as such since I thought it requires quite a strong commitment and dedication. At the same time, don’t fall to those stereotype labels that all Japanese are Otakus since it’s part of their culture.

Anyway, just strolling in the streets of Akihabara will take you the entire day! So if you want to make the most of your visit and roam all corners of the streets as possible, be mindful of your footwear! I’m not kidding, especially ladies, don’t ever commit to wearing heels and be like me ending up with cramps and blisters! Lol

Going back, if you have issues with censorship and whatnot, you might want to choose your shop carefully since they transparently advertised stuff that some people might think it as too liberating. You can buy all sorts of costumes, crazy merchandise and a whole lot of unique and out from the box souvenir items. Every shop get’s crazier and crazier if you really dig down until to the most corner side of the district.

Not to mention this is also a haven for toy collectors and tech- geeks. It’s a place where you would genuinely enjoy just by window shopping while at the same time drooling over all these massive anime merchandise!

Oh and one interesting part is seeing all these cute girls on the streets in complete cosplay while handing over pamphlets and brochures to strangers and bystanders. Little known fact, Akihabara is also famous for theme cafes like maid cafes and whatnot. So if you have the loot, the time and the guts, you definitely should check one!

To be in this place is sure overwhelming but certainly something you will never get tired of coming back over again!
